After an epic journey with my friends in Trincomalee, I set out to head back home. The original plan was to stay a little longer with my friend Ranul and explore more of the area. But I wasn’t feeling well—tired and sick—so I made the call to return home. On the way, I remembered a place that once touched my heart. A quiet spot, filled with warmth and kindness. In this episode, my friends and I rode deep into Sri Lanka’s war history. We visited an iconic site from the days of the civil war , a lighthouse standing tall at the far end of Trincomalee Bay. Our day began relaxed, fueled by a great breakfast from our kind host, before we set off on a scenic 1.5-hour ride through rural landscapes filled with vibrant local life and beautiful aesthetics. Unintentionally, Google Maps led us to a restricted military base near Sampur, but thanks to the kindness of locals, we quickly found our way without any issues. Standing on the shores of Sampur, gazing at the lighthouse, I was filled with thoughts of a past marked by conflict and sacrifice. Nearby, we discovered a Toller boat wreck resting on the shore, its eerie presence almost haunting. This ride became one of the most memorable experiences I’ve ever had, a journey through history, nature, and the resilience of the people. In this episode, I ride with one of my best friends, Minuka, to Trincomalee, a city in the Northeast of Sri Lanka, literally means "Lord of the Sacred Hill". We journey through scenic landscapes, spot an elephant along the way, and take a refreshing break at a historic reservoir before arriving at the beautiful, untamed coastline of Trincomalee, named Uppuveli. Once in Uppuveli, our other two best friends, Ranul and Nushara, joined us. Together, we explore the stunning beauty of Trincomalee and the iconic Swami Rock, which overlooks the Trincomalee harbor. This harbor has a rich history — it has served as a vital port for seafarers, was captured by colonial powers, bombed by the Japanese during World War II, and played an important role during the civil war of Sri Lanka.
